Homemade Naan Bread

Do you ever get stuck in a rut of just buying something ready made from the shop instead of making it yourself? This is exactly what I have been doing with naan bread! When I found out they were incredibly cheap and easy to make, I haven’t brought any since.

Makes 4- 5

Ingredients

250g plain flour

125ml milk

2 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp baking powder

2 tbsp oil, plus a little extra

  1. Sieve the flour, baking power and sugar into a large bowl. Make a well in the middle, pour in the milk and oil. Mix together until it forms a dough. Transfer to a floured surface and knead with your hands for 5 minutes, if the dough is too dry add some water and if it is too wet, add some more flour.
  2. Oil a bowl, place dough inside and cover with cling film or a tea towel. Put in a warm place for 10 minutes.
  3. Split dough into 4 or 5 equal balls. Roll them out until they are 0.5cm thin. Cook each side under the grill until they start to puff up and brown.

  4. Just made these. Everyone ate every bit and asked me to make more next time! I used soya milk and wholemeal flour. Not on purpose, I was using stuff up!
