Fancy Toad In The Hole

This maybe an easy and obvious recipe to make but I’ve added a few things to make it extra tasty whilst still keeping the price low. You can make the batter in advance and put it in the fridge. I find the longer it’s been in the fridge, the better the batter rises.

Costs: 0.56p per serving.

Serves 4

125g plain flour

1 medium egg

300ml milk

1 tbsp rosemary

8 sausages

1 onion, chopped

  1. Preheat oven to 200C.
  2. Whisk together the flour, egg, and rosemary. Put into the fridge whilst you prepare the rest.
  3. Pour 3-4 tbsp of oil into an oven proof dish and put it into the oven. Fry the onion in a little oil until soft but not brown.
  4. Take the dish out of the oven and place the sausages in a line. Evenly scatter over the onion and lastly, pour in the batter. Cook in a preheated oven for 25-30 minutes.

  1. What would you put with it as my family (grandchildren ) would think I was starving them even though it looks lovely and with the extras would taste yummy it wouldn’t fill 12 and 18 year old boy?
