You may be wondering why I’m doing such a simple recipe! Well not only were hash browns one of the first things I attempted to cook for my husband when we first met (massive fail, I didn’t put the eggs in and tried to cook them in the oven!), but they are also cheap to make.
The mixture and hash browns can be frozen if you don’t need them all at once!
Costs 9p each
4 medium potatoes, peeled and grated
1 small onion, grated
50g plain flour
1 egg, whisked
- Rinse the grated potato under the tap. Drain and then place in the middle of a clean tea towel, gather up the edges and then squeeze all of the excess water out.
2. Place all the ingredients, apart from the oil, into to a bowl and mix well. Heat the oil in a large frying pan (I used 80ml), when the oil is hot put in two tablespoons of the potato mixture to form each hash brown.
3. Cook for around 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
